IABC/Pittsburgh Wants You

You’re motivated and energetic, want to build your professional skills, and are always working to grow your network. If this sounds like you, it’s time to join the IABC/Pittsburgh executive board. You’ll own one aspect of running the chapter and will collaborate with the other officers to develop program and sponsorship ideas, resolve issues and participate in email discussions.

What does it take to be on the board?

  • A current IABC membership
  • The ability to commit to two years of service (terms run from July 1 to June 30)
  • The time to attend one board meeting per month and attend most chapter programs
  • Ideas on how to make the chapter better
  • The energy to make things happen
  • The passion to serve as an ambassador for IABC in the community

Which positions are open?

We are always interested in talking to people who would like to serve on the board, though currently, all positions are filled through 2012. The option to work with a co-chair is available for most positions.

Co-President – Supervises affairs of the chapter, acts as liaison with district and international and with other local communication organizations. Conducts board meetings, and works with all board members as needed. Serves on nominating committee. (Must have served in previous IABC board position.)

Treasurer (VP Finance) — Aided by the administrative assistant/bookkeeper, prepares annual chapter budget in cooperation with president and board. Keeps financial records and bank accounts, reviews monthly financial reports, invoices and reimbursements, helps track costs of GTA, and reviews end-of-year report and tax forms for IABC Headquarters.

VP Professional Development/Programming – Plans and produces monthly professional development meetings and annual workshop (selects topic, speaker and location and makes arrangements).  Works with marketing, and electronic communications officers to write and promote meeting descriptions for web, SM and newsletters. Prepares budget for professional development programs.

VP of Marketing and Public Relations – Furthers visibility of the chapter through media placements, news releases and Also produces an occasional flyer or postcard used to promote upcoming programs.

VP of Membership – Actively recruits and welcomes new members, reports on membership activity, promotes membership month discounts, and attends member involvement events. Directs and executes recruitment/retention programs, such as letter campaign to lapsed or prospective members.

VP of Electronic Communications – Collects contributions for and produces a monthly email newsletter to members. Posts news and information on the website, updates to Social Media (Facebook, Linked In and Twitter sites). Some technical skill required for the web in Word Press format).

Director of Judging – Coordinates volunteers to judge other chapters’ awards contests several times a year. Also responsible for Golden Triangle Awards judging.. Attends packing night to process award delivery.

Director of Job Referral – Coordinates all aspects of the job placement newsletter, including working with job seekers and recruiters. Also assists with trial membership duties.

Director of Member Involvement – Plans and attends happy hours, volunteer activity and other opportunities for networking and member involvement. Recruits members to serve on committees.

Golden Triangle Co-Chairs - Manages the Golden Triangle Awards Committee, and supervises the contest: soliciting and tracking entries, coordinating judging, processing entries and fee, tracking results and planning and executing the awards dinner and publicity.
